IT'S MINI MAYHEM AT DECADANCE!
Our annual dance convention day created just for ages nine and under.
As you'll see in our 2024 recap video above, there's just nothing like a room of young dancers eager to get creative with teachers who LOVE to work with this specific age group.
DECAdance proudly hosts a signature event each October just for minis and petites. Dancers under the age of nine have a full convention day dedicated to their age group called DECAdance MINI MAYHEM.
MINI MAYHEM is a joy-filled event where everyone from our educators to our students go home with cheeks that hurt from smiling! Halloween costumes are welcomed, giggles abound, and most importantly - we create a schedule that accommodates this particular age group. With shorter classes and bonus breakout sessions to break up the day, these young dancers get to learn, stretch their creative muscles and bop around to their own beat under the loving guidance of our staff. (ICYMI, most of our staff are parents to children under the ages of 5. Our staff and the faculty we hire for this particular event are all very familiar with how to best support this age group!)
We order plenty of pizza, offer surprise bonus activities and of course - we host a huge dance party at the end of the day (seriously, does it get any better?).
We've always held one event per year right before Halloween in central Jersey but we have EXCITING NEWS for 2025: MINI MAYHEM will make an appearance in more cities next season! We are dedicated to making this important event accessible to more minis and petites across all the states we serve with our competitions.
Next year's HALLOWEEN MINI MAYHEM event is set for October 26th, 2025 in Somserset, NJ. Additional events will be announced in early 2025 and registration will open January 21, 2025 so that dancers who receive scholarships at competition can register right away!
Special guest Janette Dishuk, founder of Synergy Wellness, treats our youngest 2024 MINI MAYHEM guests to their very own breakout session called LEAPS + BOUNDS: Be Your Best You! Janette offers this extra special session to guide dancers toward thinking about what makes them their best self and how to accomplish those goals. Jan caters to each group she works with, including topics like positive body image, self-talk (positive, motivating, reassuring), handling disappointment, ways to calm and focus, stressors and how to ask for help and support, glows & grows, and meaningful ways to show up as our best self in the studio, at comps, and in school.
Other special guests at past MINI MAYHEM events have included Relative Motion and author Heather Booysen!

Featuring live music and genres paired together for a very intentional artistic experience, New Jersey's "un"convention is going to be really special this year. This year's event includes classes in Ballet, Bollywood, Latin, Jazz, African Dance, and an inclusive Musicality + Rhythm class for ALL, with tap shoes optional. We'll welcome Relative Motion and Synergy Wellness for special breakout sessions and students will be stretched - both literally and figuratively - outside their comfort zone! Anatomy-based education will start the day and each teacher will share expertise with dancers in a way that empowers them to continue practicing long after the day is through.
We are so excited to debut this experience with live music, in partial tribute to Andrea Mychaels who we lost in 2024. Andrea was an original DECA team member who also sang with big bands and rock bands across the tri-state area. We'll honor her with an epic day of dedication, education, creativity and artistry in Somerset, NJ.

This schedule includes classes in Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Latin, Bollywood and an inclusive Musicality + Rhythm class for ALL, with tap shoes optional. Dancers will be sent home with practices to apply to their technical training and engage in strength and conditioning that empowers them to know and understand their bodies a little better when the day is through.

Although this event for dancers aged 9 and under has a different schedule than our other "un"conventions, it's still built with that DECAdifference flair.
